1 pkg. yeast
1 cup dry milk
3 Tablespoons sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 cups whole wheat flour
2 cups white flour
1 3/4 cup warm water - 120 degrees
1/4 cup vegetable oil
Place dry ingredients in a gallon pressure sealed bag.*
Close and blend ingredients (test seal over counter).
Add warm water and oil. Press out as much air as possible.
Squeeze bag until dough is elastic. Yeast has to dissolve and
gluten develop. Work about 10 minutes.
Grease two 4" x 8" loaf pans or two one-quart metal coffee cans.
Place in a warm atmosphere.**
Let rise until doubled, about one hour.
Bake 35 minutes at 375 degrees.
Take out of pan immediately. Cool on a rack.
*May be mixed in a bowl.
**Place a cup of water in the microwave. Bring to a boil to
create warmth and steam. Do not use microwave while bread is
in place.
This bread has a yummy flavor but will be softer and have a more
open texture than usual due to less kneading. It is a good
activity
to do with your children or grandchildren. Teach correct methods
for measuring dry and liquid ingredients. Work as a team.
